this month's under-rated documentary award goes to the criterion collection full 170 minute version of Tokyo Olympiad directed by Kon Ichikawa.

found this at the library and gave it a shot based on:
a.) filmed in Japan
b.) filmed in 1964
c.) a documentary
despite the Olympics-ness of it these three qualities are sure winners in my book.

generally i like any movie that feels like watching a national geographic magazine. and typewriters come in different languages! the scene with the reporters' room made me so happy with people from all over the world typing out new world records in their respective languages.
